Job summary

Piedmont Newton Hospital in Covington, GA is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist who can independently perform and supervise routine and complex laboratory testing for patients of all ages, using established procedures and quality control practices.

The ideal candidate will hold ASCP/AMT/AAB certification, a high school diploma with related coursework or a bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, and at least three years of experience in a clinical laboratory.

Qualifications

• Education requirements: high school diploma with additional coursework and clinical training to qualify for testing/certification as a medical technologist.
• Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science or related life/biological science is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Independently performs laboratory procedures for which trained and demonstrated competency.
• Independently performs laboratory testing on patients of all ages using professional knowledge to execute, interpret and analyze results.
• Oversees technical activities of the section or department in the absence of the lead or supervisor.

Education

H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) with college/technical training and clinical experience to meet testing certification requirements

Qualifications

Education

• H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) plus a sufficient number of college and/or technical school courses and clinical training to satisfy the requirements for testing and certification as a medical technologist by an approved certifying agency. Required
• Bachelors Degree in clinical laboratory science, biomedical science, medical technology or in a life / biological science (biology, biochemistry, microbiology, etc.) Preferred

Work Experience

• 3 years in a clinical laboratory setting Required

Licenses and Certifications

• Certification as a medical technologist or medical laboratory scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), AMT (American Medical Technologists) or AAB (American Association of Bioanalysts) according to the qualifications through the State of Georgia Department of Community Health, Healthcare Facility, Clinical Laboratory regulations. • A person who recently moved into the state of Georgia may be temporarily classified as technologists for eighteen (18) months only to afford the person an opportunity to successfully complete an approved qualifying examination. within 1-1/2 Yrs Required
• AAB provisional certification not accepted
