Job summary

Vitalant in San Luis Obispo, CA is hiring Medical Laboratory Scientists to support our Donor Product Laboratory. Newly graduated and experienced MLS are welcome.

You will perform moderate complexity testing, ensure quality, maintain records, and provide technical support to hospital transfusion services. This role offers a 12:00 pm–8:30 pm shift with a 9% second shift differential and a sign-on bonus eligibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or science degree with MLS/ASCP or AHN certification.
• CA State licensure as required by regulations.
• 1 year of relevant laboratory experience meeting CA state Clinical Lab Scientist requirements and certification.

Responsibilities

• Performs moderate complexity testing (e.g. quality control of components, single donor platelet yields, hematology testing on Sysmex analyzer, residual WBC testing, Hemoglobin S testing, pH testing).
• Participates in inventory management including blood product issuing.
• Performs final record review/quality review.
• Maintains accurate records and documentation.
• Participates in quality control, preventive maintenance, and validations.
• Provides technical support/liaison to hospital transfusion services.
• Resolves problems between departments that prevent production and distribution of blood components.
• Participates in rotating on-call schedule responding to urgent customer issues and system alerts outside of operating hours.

Schedule: Monday - Friday with Rotating Holidays

Work Shift: 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Base Wage: $45.00

2nd Shift Differential: 9%

Requirements
