Job summary

Diagnostic-Laboratories- in Irvine, CA is seeking a full-time lab support role focused on specimen collection, requisition accuracy, specimen labeling, and proper routing to testing benches. This position requires basic training and attention to detail in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities include marking tests on requisitions, ensuring correct specimen collection, maintaining patient identifiers, scanning requisitions, and complying with safety PPE protocols.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent and minimum of 2 months of training in specimen collection if no prior experience noted.
• Proper knowledge of specimen collection appropriate to the test ordered, i.e., requirements for lab test(s)
• Awareness of the factors that influence test results
• Knowledge of medical (laboratory) terminology helpful

Responsibilities

• Properly marks the location of testing on the requisition upon specimen arrival.
• Ensures correct specimen collection for each test ordered and writes tube types in requisition margins.
• Ensures patient name, date/time of collection, and phlebotomist number are filled on the requisition; place barcode on all specimens.
• Inform facility and fill paperwork if a redraw is needed for various reasons.
• Take redraw orders from a CLS if specimen is unsuitable for the test required.
• Scan all patient requisitions into the Filebound program.
• Centrifuge specimens correctly to obtain adequate serum or plasma.
• Route in-house specimens to correct lab benches for testing.
• Route reference lab specimens to the reference lab desk for inclusion into the TRK Sendout Manifest.
• Prepare reference lab coolers with proper paperwork per guidelines for Biological Substances – Category B.
• Prepare a copy of the DL requisition for any local reference lab with account number, clearly marking tests to be done.
• Notify Dispatch if a cooler is sent to airport or courier is needed for local reference lab.
• Review in-house testing areas for completed specimens to enable storage for add-on tests.
• Wear proper PPE at all times to protect from infectious material.
