Overview

Responsible for receiving and processing specimens, accessioning specimens in the laboratory information system, handling incoming calls, and assisting with general lab supply management. Work in conjunction with Medical Laboratory Scientists.

Responsibilities
  1. Understand and adhere to Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of department and hospital policies and procedures and their execution
  3. Handle telephone inquiries and transfer as needed
  4. Receive, accession, and process specimens to ensure timely reporting of results, ensuring positive patient identification
  5. Perform registration in HIS as needed
  6. Process reference lab testing as needed
  7. Perform testing as needed
  8. Independently troubleshoot specimen-related problems
  9. Assist with training new employees
  10. Maintain hardware and equipment as needed
  11. Use computer programs in laboratory and hospital-based systems to ensure accurate data entry and retrieval
  12. Perform other duties as needed

Additional responsibilities may include specialized tasks in blood bank, microbiology, and pathology, depending on the department's needs.
