Job summary

North Memorial Health Maple Grove Hospital is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to perform data entry, basic computer operations, specimen collection and processing to support the lab team in delivering quality patient care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant or Medical Assistant program.
• At least one year of current laboratory experience or related coursework may substitute program experience.

About This Position

The Medical Laboratory Assistant Performs data entry, basic computer operations, specimen collection, processing, and basic laboratory procedures. The Medical Laboratory Assistant continuously works towards providing quality service improvement and optimum support to the department and team members in achieving North Memorial- Maple Grove Hospital’s goals. Requirements

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.

Experience

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Completion of an accredited program for Medical Laboratory Assistants or Medical Assistants.

OR

• Minimum of one-year current laboratory experience in a clinic or hospital setting.

OR

• Completion of a course in medical terminology and at least two semesters of college level biology and/or chemistry.
• Superior ability to multi-task, prioritize multiple projects, adjust to changing workflow and workload accordingly.
• Ability to take initiative, be self-motivated and an independent, accountable, dependent performer.
• Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to express ideas and information (both in written and oral form), clearly and concisely in a manner appropriate to the audience.
• Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict in a positive manner. Has an awareness of, responds to, and considers the needs, feelings and capabilities of others.
• Ability to be accountable for quality customer service and respond appropriately to a variety of personalities and situations.
• Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.
• Must be able to read, write and speak effectively in English.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

• Completion of a minimum of 6 hours of continuing education hours annually.
• Assists in the orientation and training of new team members and students as directed by Laboratory Manager or Lab Lead.
• Participates in all required in-service training, laboratory meetings and other additional assigned training.
• Maintains skill proficiency, including improvement were deemed necessary and attains new skills as required.

Benefit Eligibility: Health insurance benefits are available for this position. North Memorial Health offers multiple health plans based on work group eligibility.

Salary Range: S13 ($19.65 - $27.52), based on experience

Shift Differential: Compensation may include shift differential pay depending on the position and shift worked.
