Job summary

Piedmont Global in Tallahassee, FL is expanding its network of freelance interpreters to provide medical and educational interpretation on-site, via video remote interpretation, and over the phone.

These are 1099 Independent Contractor opportunities with assignments offered based on client needs, interpreter qualifications, location, and availability. Ideal candidates have medical interpreting training and strong language proficiency.

Qualifications

• At least two years of interpreting experience (paid or volunteer).
• Professional proficiency in English and the target language(s).
• Two relevant professional references, or one professional reference and one relevant letter of recommendation.
• Valid government-issued identification.
• Completion of a recognized 40-hour medical interpreter training program or equivalent.
• Current OHA Qualified or OHA Certified Interpreter credential required.
• At least two years of interpreting experience in a healthcare setting, whether paid or volunteer.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an Interpreter between a wide range of people with diverse voices, accents, speaking tempos and personalities.
• Provide parties with clear and exact interpretations of verbal communication with no additions or omissions.
• Provide interpretations of questions, answers, statements, arguments, explanations, and other forms of verbal communication.
• Render sight translations of documents and other written materials, as needed.
• Impart thought, purpose, spirit, emotions, and tone of speaker from source language into target language, and vice-versa.
• Inform relevant parties of any factor that may hinder your performance.
• Comply with applicable ethics and standards.

We are expanding our network of professional freelance interpreters to provide high-quality consecutive and simultaneous educational and medical interpretation services in the Northern Florida area, with assignments available on-site (OSI), via video remote interpretation (VRI), and over the phone (OPI).

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

For Non-Medical Interpreting Assignments

• At least two years of interpreting experience, whether paid or volunteer.
• Professional proficiency in English and the target language(s).
• Two relevant professional references, or one professional reference and one relevant letter of recommendation.
• Valid government-issued identification.

For Medical Interpreting Assignments

• Completion of a recognized 40-hour medical interpreter training program or equivalent.
• Current OHA Qualified or OHA Certified Interpreter credential required.
• At least two years of interpreting experience in a healthcare setting, whether paid or volunteer.
• Professional proficiency in English and the target language(s).
• Two relevant professional references, or one professional reference and one relevant letter of recommendation.

Remote Assignment Requirements

• A laptop or desktop computer with at least 4 GB of RAM.
• Reliable high-speed internet access.
• A mobile phone available as a backup device.
• A wired headset compatible with the computer or phone.
• A quiet, private workspace suitable for confidential interpreting assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in interpretation, linguistics, languages, or a related field.
• Professional interpreter training of 40 hours or more.
• Relevant interpreting certifications or credentials.
• Previous language assessment or proficiency testing.
• Candidates are encouraged to provide copies of applicable certifications, training certificates, diplomas, or language assessment results.
