Job Summary

We are seeking a Medical Interpreter to be an integral part of our healthcare team, providing direct and indirect care to patients at the Duke Children's and Internal Medicine North Durham clinic.

Job Responsibilities

1. Perform interpretation, translation, and medical escort services to assist non-English speaking patients.
2. Translate written documentation related to patient care services.
3. Ensure accurate communication of outpatient services, hospitalizations, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
4. Provide interpretation services, conveying messages precisely without summarization, and document as required by the International Patient Center.
5. Promote patient satisfaction and notify supervisors of any issues.
6. Participate in ongoing education and training, maintaining confidentiality and following policies and procedures.
7. Provide interpretation during non-business hours as part of on-call coverage.
8. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of conversation/translation competency testing in the secondary language.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Previous healthcare experience preferred.
