Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital seeks a PRN Medical Interpreter to facilitate cross-cultural communication daily, both orally and in writing, between patients, families, medical providers and staff. The role supports linguistically and culturally appropriate clinical care and requires preferably 1–2 years of interpreting experience.

The position emphasizes proficiency in MS Office and a formal interpreter training program. Certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
• Certification: Passing medical interpreter training program required; national certification preferred.
• Experience: 1–2 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Supervision experience: None.

Responsibilities

• Provide language interpretation and translation between target language and English per industry standards.
• Assist staff in delivering linguistically and culturally appropriate clinical services to patients and families.
• Demonstrate ability to address care needs across physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety dimensions of patients.
• Perform other duties as required.

The Medical Interpreter is responsible for facilitating daily cross-cultural effective communication both orally and in writing between patients, family members, medical providers and hospital staff.

Responsibilities

• 1.Provides language interpretation and translation services between the target language and English according to industry standards.


• 2.Assists employees in providing linguistically and culturally appropriate clinical services to patients and families.


• 3.Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.


• 4.Other duties as required.

Technical Expertise

• 1.Experience in proficient use of English and the target language is required.


• 2.Experience in medical interpreting is required.


• 3.Experience working with all levels within an organization is preferred.


• 4.Experience in healthcare is preferred.


• 5.Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.

Education and Experience

• 1.Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is preferred.


• 2.Certification: Evidence of passing medical interpreter training program is required. National medical interpreting certification or credential is preferred.


• 3.Years of relevant experience: 1 to 2 years is preferred.


• 4.Years of experience supervising: None.
