The Verification Specialist coordinates verification of insurance, handles clerical support for billing, and ensures accurate data and timely referrals to the Billing Department. This role requires a high school diploma and 2 years of related experience in verification

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent with 2 years in insurance verification, referrals, co-payment collection, billing and customer service.
1-2 years experience in medical billing software and ability to balance and close cash drawer.

Responsibilities

Generates daily schedule and reviews verification notes to ascertain the date of last verification.
Verifies patients' insurance coverage and demographics; coordinates with Referral Coordinator when a referral is needed.
Maintains insurance verification spreadsheet for verifications that reveal lapses in coverage or private pay.
Documents standard verification information in collection notes and notifies admissions manager of irregularities and/or special benefits.
Provides clerical support to the billing office including filing, pulling, and copying EOBs for collections staff.
