Position Summary

Are you mechanically inclined with a knack for hands-on work? Do you enjoy a flexible schedule and working independently, but also have the support of a team? The Equipment Service Technician is a remote-based, customer-facing role, primarily working inside hospitals. You will be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing medical equipment used in surgical procedures, as well as providing installation support on complex mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic units. This division is STERIS's largest field division, and its products are central to the organization. Come advance your career with us in this role!

Individuals with experience in HVAC repair, mechanics, maintenance, refrigeration, boilers, chillers, equipment repair, diesel and automotive repair, aviation repair, plumbing, electrical, etc., are often successful in this role after training.

• This is a remote, customer-facing position. To support and service our customers in this territory, candidates must be based in Massachusetts.

Duties

At STERIS, our Equipment Service Technicians represent our company by ensuring excellent service for our customers. In this field-based, customer-facing role, you will travel to hospitals and surgical facilities to maintain, troubleshoot, service, and support installation of STERIS products such as steam sterilizers and medical equipment washers. Your goal is to drive customer satisfaction through proactive communication and effective resolution of issues.

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on STERIS products safely and efficiently, including disassembling, replacing, or repairing parts, troubleshooting, calibrating, and certifying equipment using standard and specialized tools.
• Troubleshoot, repair, modify, overhaul, or refurbish equipment and system components.
• Ensure a positive customer experience through timely service, warranty calls, and minor installations.
• Establish and maintain effective communication with customers, managers, and support teams.
• Promote STERIS growth by identifying sales opportunities and recommending products/services.
• Provide timely and informative updates to customers and be a positive ambassador for STERIS at all times.

Required Experience

High School Diploma or GED with at least 4 years of work experience, including 2 years in a mechanical or technical role (e.g., mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, automotive).

Additional Qualifications

• Customer and team engagement experience
• Basic computer skills (Windows, email, navigation, mobile apps, data entry)
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet background and physical assessments for credentialing
• Flexibility to work outside normal hours and travel overnight as needed
• Ability to establish a secure and effective home office setup
• Must meet hospital/customer credentialing requirements

Associates degree, related certifications, technical training, or military experience in a relevant field may be considered towards the technical experience requirement.
