Clutch is seeking a Medical Editor for a hybrid role based in San Diego, CA. You will ensure content meets AMA style, verify references, and collaborate with writers and teams to deliver accurate, compliant materials for physicians and patients.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in medical editing, strong copy editing skills, and experience with reference management tools. The position involves occasional overtime and on-site collaboration dates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, English, journalism, communications, or related field.
• 3+ years in medical or scientific editing in medical communications or pharma.
• Strong command of grammar, punctuation, and usage.
• Expert AMA style knowledge; familiarity with ICMJE and FDA guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Perform substantive medical and scientific editing on manuscripts, abstracts, posters, slides, white papers, and digital content.
• Copy edit and proofread for grammar, punctuation, syntax, tone, and readability across stages.
• Fact-check and verify references for accuracy and formatting.
• Apply AMA style and client brand guidelines consistently and build project style sheets.
• Annotate references and prepare materials for MLR review; incorporate feedback on time.
• Review layouts and proofs to catch text and figure errors before release.
• Partner with medical writers to sharpen clarity while preserving scientific meaning.
• Track edits and maintain version history and rationale for changes.
• Manage multiple projects and rounds, communicating timelines and risks.
• Stay current on AMA style updates and ophthalmology trends to raise quality standards.
