Position
Staff Physician – Primary Care physician (part‑time, 0.5 FTE) at the Santa Maria Health Center. The position is part of an employment list for future full‑time, part‑time, and 1414‑class vacancies in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, Carpinteria, Lompoc, and the Behavioral Wellness Department.
Responsibilities
- Clinical diagnosis and treatment of patients, including history, physical examination, ordering and interpreting tests, performing procedures, and referring to specialists.
- Comprehensive case management, coordination of outpatient services, and oversight of medical records in accordance with County Health guidelines.
- Administrative duties to support clinic and program operations, including billing and coding, participation in quality review committees, and attendance at regular and special staff meetings.
- Supervision of midlevel clinical staff and acting as supervisor in the absence of the Staff Physician, Supervising.
- Participation as a county health emergency responder and support of county health emergency operations when called upon.
Qualifications
- Active California Physician & Surgeon license (or in final year of an approved residency program with intent to obtain license).
- Valid DEA certification for controlled substance prescription.
- Board certification or eligibility in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, or another specialty consistent with County Health assignment.
- Valid data‑base and state provider numbers: DICOM, Medi‑Cal, NPI, DEA, CHDP, CCS.
- Current valid California Class C driver’s license (for certain positions).

- Strong outpatient management and coordination of testing and referrals.
- Leadership and collaborative skills with the ability to support and supervise midlevel staff.
- Flexibility for public‑health emergencies and standby call coverage outside regular hours.
- Cultural competence and empathy in caring for diverse patient populations.

- Annual salary range: $242,132.80 – $276,529.76 (full time equivalent).
