About Pair Team

Pair Team is on a mission to connect underserved communities to high quality care as a tech-enabled medical group focused on high-risk Medicaid and Duals patients. Their novel whole-person care model - social, clinical, behavioral - is quarterbacked by a multidisciplinary care team across their network of shelters, food pantries, and other community partners leveraging Arc, their proprietary care management platform. Pair Team is one of the largest providers of a high-needs case management benefit in California and on track to build the country's largest clinically-integrated network of community-based organizations. They have demonstrated an ability to engage a hard to reach patient population and address gaps in care, including a 56% reduction in ED visits and a 26% reduction in hospital admissions.

About the Opportunity

As a Medical Director at Pair Team, you will play a critical role in supervising and supporting our team of Nurse Practitioners (NPs), owning the development and implementation of clinical policies and protocols, and collaborating closely with our Population Health team to ensure excellent outcomes for underserved communities. You will report to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and contribute to the strategic direction of the company's clinical operations.

This is a fully remote position with opportunities for in-person engagement. The role requires travel to represent Pair Team at conferences and with other partners and stakeholders.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and supervise our team of Nurse Practitioners and Physicians, providing clinical oversight and mentorship to drive high-quality patient care.
  • Ensure Pair Team achieves its value-based cost-of-care and HEDIS targets by developing and executing new, evidence-based clinical protocols and policies in partnership with our Population Health team.
  • Serve as a key clinical leader, bridging clinical expertise with operational needs and collaborating closely with behavioral health, nursing and care management leadership to ensure seamless care delivery.
  • Partner with the Chief Medical Officer to inform clinical strategy and contribute to organizational growth.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex clinical questions from our front-line teams.
  • Own and cultivate relationships with health plans, community organizations and other stakeholders, acting as a strategic partner to advance Pair Team's goals through impactful external engagement.
What You'll Need
  • Board certification in Family or Internal Medicine as a Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), with an active and unrestricted medical license in California.
  • 5+ years of clinical experience, including at least 2 years in leadership or supervisory roles, in safety-net settings.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement clinical protocols and policies in a dynamic healthcare environment.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including clinical, operations, growth and population health.
  • A passion for serving vulnerable populations, including those experiencing homelessness, severe mental illness, or substance use disorders.
  • Experience in telehealth or technology-enabled care delivery models is a plus.
  • Comfort in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment that values autonomy and innovation.
Our Values
  • Lead with integrity: We keep our commitments and take responsibility for our actions. We are dependable and choose authenticity over perfection.
  • Embrace challenges: We leave our egos at the door and step forward into discomfort instead of back into safety. We help each other to learn and provide feedback using candor and kindness.
  • Break through walls: We go the extra mile for our patients, partners and one another, and we run toward hard things. We are resilient in our push for consistent improvement and challenge the status quo.
  • Act beyond yourself: We build each other up and respect boundaries. We seek first to understand and assume positive intent.
  • Care comes first: We hold ourselves to the highest standards for our patients. We are relentless in the pursuit of our mission, and ensure that we are taking care of ourselves in order to care for others.
Because We Value You:
  • Equity compensation package
  • Flexible vacation policy – take the time you need to recharge
  • Comprehensive health, vision & dental insurance
  • $50 employer contribution to active HSA accounts
  • 401k through Guideline
  • Life insurance and AD&D
  • Work entirely from the comfort of your own home
  • Monthly $100 work from home expense stipend
  • We provide the equipment needed for the role
  • Opportunity for rapid career progression with plenty of room for personal growth!
