Job summary

Assumption University in Worcester, MA invites applications for a Part-time 12-month Professor of Practice in the PA Program and School of Health Professions. The position collaborates with the Program Director and supports curriculum development and accreditation efforts.

The Medical Director will assist with site development, student advising, and faculty development while promoting diversity and professional excellence within the PA program and its clinical sites.

Qualifications

  • Must be licensed to practice as an allopathic or osteopathic physician.
  • Must possess ABMS- or AOA-certified specialty board certification.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a practicing physician.
  • Willing to contribute actively to the university mission and its Catholic/Assumptionist identity.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Program Director in organizing, administering, and evaluating the PA Program.
  • Participate in ARC-PA accreditation processes and site visits.
  • Teach courses within demonstrated competence as assigned by the Program Director.

Job description

Part-time 12-month Professor of Practice in the PA Program and School of Health Professions responsible for collaborating and consulting with the Program Director as an active participant in the program. The Medical Director will support the development and ongoing review of the program competencies to meet current practice standards as they relate to the PA role. The Medical Director will also consult and collaborate with the faculty regarding didactic and clinical curriculum and in the development and maintenance of clinical sites. The Medical Director will play an integral role in the Program’s accreditation preparation for the ARC-PA site visits.

Principal Accountabilities:
  • Assists the Program Director in the organization, administration, continuous and periodic review and assessment, planning, development, and evaluation of the effectiveness of the PA Program.
  • Actively participates in the ARC-PA accreditation process.
  • Teaches courses with which he/she has demonstrated competence and/or experience and as assigned by the Program Director.
  • Assists in development, review, and revision of the PA Program mission, vision, goals, and competencies.
  • Assists in the development of the Student Handbook annually.
  • Advises the Program Director of any problems related to student behavior, academic performance, or professionalism.
  • Provides opportunities for ongoing faculty development and peer review.
  • Assists in the interview process and selection of faculty members.
  • Regularly attends or reviews the minutes of staff and faculty meetings.
  • Assists in other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
Other Duties:
  • Provides academic advising/counseling for students.
  • Assists in the review of applications for admission to include conducting interviews and supporting the recruitment and selection of students.
  • Supports the Director of Clinical Education in clinical site development and monitoring.
  • Supports the Director of Didactic Education and Director of Clinical Education in the coordination, development, and evaluation of curriculum and evaluation of student performance.
  • Fosters a Program climate that values diversity among program stakeholders.
  • Participates in lab, small group, and simulation activities.
  • Participates in University events as a representative of the PA Program and the School of Health Professions.
  • Participates in events external to the Program that increase awareness and reputation of the PA Program.

Requirements
  • Must be currently or previously licensed to practice as an allopathic or osteopathic physician
  • Must possess current or previous certification granted by an ABMS- or AOA-approved specialty board
  • Must have a minimum of 10 years of experience as a practicing physician
  • Must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of the University, as well as show respect for the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption University
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current state licensure to practice as an allopathic or osteopathic physician
  • Current state controlled substance registration
  • Current federal DEA controlled substance registration
  • Experience teaching in a PA program or medical school
  • 5 years teaching experience, preferably in higher education
  • Experience with ARC-PA accreditation
