Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical practice as a PA.
  • Minimum of two (2) years in clinical education, precepting, or teaching.
  • Strong knowledge of ARC-PA accreditation standards.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Experience with clinical site development and preceptor coordination.
  • Ability to travel to clinical sites for visits and evaluations.
  • Proficiency with technology and clinical education management systems.

Job description

Position Summary

The Clinical Instructional Faculty member is a core faculty responsible for teaching within the didactic and/or clinical curriculum of the Physician Assistant program. This position focuses primarily on classroom and laboratory instruction, student mentorship, and maintaining clinical competence. The faculty member works collaboratively with program leadership and other faculty to deliver high-quality physician assistant education in compliance with ARC-PA accreditation standards.
This position is a 12-month full-time, core faculty appointment. The faculty member must maintain clinical competence through ongoing clinical practice, continuing medical education, or other approved activities.

Principal Accountabilities
Teaching (65%)
  • Serve as course director or co-director for assigned PA program courses
  • Teach within the didactic curriculum in areas of clinical expertise
  • Develop, revise, and publish course syllabi that are compliant with ARC-PA standards as well as institutional and departmental requirements
  • Create and deliver lectures, case-based learning sessions, and other instructional activities
  • Facilitate small group discussions and problem-based learning sessions
  • Participate in laboratory sessions, clinical skills training, and simulation activities
  • Develop assessment materials including examinations, quizzes, and practical evaluations
  • Grade all course deliverables within 48 hours of student completion
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on academic performance
  • Conduct student course remediation activities in accordance with program policies and procedures
  • Maintain office hours for student consultation and academic support
  • Participate in standardized patient encounters and OSCE evaluations
  • Model effective, student-centered teaching practices
  • Utilize appropriate instructional methods and educational technologies
Service (20%)
  • Maintain an active role in state and national organizations supporting the educational mission of the program
  • Represent the Department in intramural and extramural community activities
  • Participate in student recruitment, admission interviews and selection, curriculum evaluation, student progress, and accreditation activities
  • Serve as a member of the Department’s PA Education Committee, PA Admissions Committee and PA Student Progress Committee
  • Attend faculty meetings of the Department
  • Participate in the program’s ongoing self-study and accreditation process, including preparation of documents and/or reports, and active participation in site visits by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
  • Serve on institutional committees as assigned
  • Participation in clinical work in the community
Advising (10%)
  • Monitor student academic progress throughout the didactic phase
  • Oversee remediation processes for students experiencing academic difficulties
  • Meet with assigned advisees once per term at minimum
Scholarship (5%)
  • Engage in scholarly activities including research, presentations, and publications
  • Maintain current knowledge of PA education trends and best practices
  • Participate in professional organizations related to PA education
  • Pursue continuing medical education to maintain clinical competence
  • Contribute to the advancement of the PA profession through service and leadership
Accreditation and Compliance (Continuous and ongoing)
  • Maintain compliance with ARC-PA accreditation standards related to clinical education
  • Ensure all clinical sites have current affiliation agreements
  • Document clinical rotation experiences and maintain accurate records
  • Participate in self-study preparation and accreditation site visits
  • Contribute to annual program reports and ongoing accreditation documentation
  • Stay current with changes to accreditation standards and implement necessary modifications
  • Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations affecting clinical education
