Job summary

Saint Joseph’s Medical Center in Queens, NY seeks an experienced Medical Director to lead the Opioid Treatment Program and oversee medical services.

Responsibilities include direct clinical care, program oversight, policy guidance, and collaboration with the Administrative and Clinic Directors to deliver high-quality care for individuals with substance use disorders. NY license and DATA 2000 waiver are required, with a minimum of 5 years in SUD services.

Qualifications

• Current NYS medical license and registration.
• Minimum of 5 years of education, training, and/or experience in substance use disorder services.
• Current federal DATA 2000 waiver / buprenorphine certification.
• Ability to maintain required credentialing and continuing medical education requirements.
• Strong computer skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and customized databases.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct clinical services to OTP patients, including examinations and inductions.
• Oversee day-to-day medical operations of the program.
• Establish, maintain, and enforce professional and ethical standards for medical services and patient care.
• Monitor the quality and efficiency of medical care provided.
• Coordinate and direct patient care with Administrative Director and Clinic Director.
• Provide guidance on medical policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and patient care.
• Participate in committees, meetings, staff education, and facility activities.
• Support continuing education and professional development for medical and clinical staff.
• Maintain patient privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and rights.

Medical Director – Opioid Treatment Program

Saint Joseph’s Medical Center is seeking an experienced Medical Director to lead medical services for our Opioid Treatment Program in Queens, NY.

This is an opportunity for an experienced physician with a background in substance use disorder services to provide clinical leadership, oversee day-to-day medical operations, and work collaboratively with the Administrative Director and Clinic Director to ensure the delivery of high‑quality patient care.

Position Highlights:

• Provide direct clinical services to patients in the Opioid Treatment Program, including physical examinations, medication induction, diagnostic testing, and clinical assessments
• Oversee medical issues related to the day‑to‑day operation of the program
• Establish, maintain, and enforce professional and ethical standards for medical services and patient care
• Monitor the quality and efficiency of medical care provided
• Work closely with the Administrative Director and Clinic Director to coordinate and direct patient care
• Provide guidance regarding medical policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and patient care
• Participate in committees, meetings, staff education, and facility activities
• Support continuing education and professional development for medical and clinical staff
• Maintain a strong focus on patient privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and rights

Qualifications:

• Current New York State medical license and registration
• Minimum of 5 years of education, training, and/or experience in substance use disorder services
• Current federal DATA 2000 waiver / buprenorphine certification
• Ability to maintain required credentialing and continuing medical education requirements

Preferred Addiction Medicine/Behavioral Health Credentials:

• Subspecialty board certification in Addiction Psychiatry through the American Board of Medical Specialties
• Addiction certification through the American Society of Addiction Medicine
• Certification through the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM)
• Subspecialty board certification in Addiction Medicine through the American Osteopathic Association

Additional Requirement:

• Must successfully complete all required background screenings in accordance with hospital policy
