Job description

Exciting opportunity for a Medical Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support / Advanced Heart Failure Cardiologist to join our growing team!

Lee Health Heart Institute is seeking an experienced Medical Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support to join the Advanced Heart Failure Center in Fort Myers, Florida. The Medical Director will play a pivotal leadership role in developing and expanding device therapy and coordinating inpatient and ambulatory care for recipients of left-ventricular assist devices.

Lee Health Heart Institute has an established, full-service cardiothoracic surgical program performing 1,300 open heart surgeries and 3,700 catheterization procedures annually, serving 4,000 patients with acute heart failure. The Heart Park Medical Center is the hub for the Cardiogenic Shock Program, offering surgical Impella and ECMO treatments, and is part of a large hospital system with 1,890 licensed beds. The program collaborates with regional heart transplant centers for cardiac replacement therapies.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the mechanical circulatory support (MCS) program, including patient selection, pre-operative evaluation, and post-operative care.
  • Lead multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient management and program development.
  • Stay updated on advancements in MCS technology and treatment methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and contribute to continuous quality improvement.

Qualified Candidates Should Be:

  • Board Certified/Board Eligible by the ABIM in Advanced Heart Failure/Transplant
  • Completed an ACGME-accredited heart failure fellowship
  • Proficient in managing LVAD, heart transplant, and short-term mechanical support devices including Impella and ECMO
  • Preferably more than 5 years post-fellowship experience, but recent graduates are welcome to apply
  • Eager to work in a high-volume, growing practice with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Effective communicators capable of collaborating within a large multidisciplinary team
  • Possess a strong clinical reputation, leadership, vision, and strategic organizational skills to grow the program with a focus on quality care
  • Optional: Ability to perform right heart catheterizations, heart biopsies, and Cardiomems
