POSITION OVERVIEW:

The School of Graduate Studies (www.graduate.umaryland.edu/) at the University of Maryland, Baltimore is seeking applicants for part-time (10 to 30 percent FTE) non-tenure track, 12-month appointment for an open rank Medical Director for the Master Program in Forensic Medicine. Faculty appointments are non-tenure, long-term, renewable contracts. A Medical Director for Master program in Forensic Medicine is a licensed forensic pathologist responsible for overseeing the educational aspects of the program, ensuring that the curriculum meets program requirements and standards, and providing guidance for the program director/assistant program director and faculty. Qualified candidates should have an earned M.D., D.O. or equivalent with demonstrated potential for teaching excellence. Strong candidates will also have demonstrated interest in inter-professional, online student-centered learning and student advising.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Forensic Medicine Master's program
  • Review and approve curriculum content to ensure it aligns with the Forensic Medicine Master's program missions, objectives and standards.
  • Directly supervise the program director/assistant director in developing and updating course materials and teaching modules.
  • Provides classroom instruction; is knowledgeable and effective in teaching assigned subjects.
  • Recruits qualified faculty to teach courses
  • Mentors program director/assistant program in support student research experiences, presentations and publications and career development
  • Ensure the students are appropriately exposed to a diverse range of training opportunities
  • Collaborate with the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Graduate Studies, and program director/assistant director to address any issues and concerns
  • Serve as the liaison between Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the School of Graduate Studies
  • Collaborates with academic, state, national and industry partners to enhance the curriculum and represents the program at national, state, local, and institutional meetings and activities as appropriate.
  • Participate in the decision-making process regarding student admission, advancement, and graduation.
  • Provide support to other faculty members who teach FM students
  • Pursues continuing education activities as required for maintaining professional qualifications.
  • Provide high quality academic support for students, including acting as an advisor to a group of students.
  • Address the needs of a highly diverse student population in age, ethnicity, and cultural background.
  • Engage in scholarly activity in areas of interest. Scholarship is broadly interpreted and may include implementation and assessment of novel instructional methods.




Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Earned Medical Degree (M.D. or D.O.)
  • Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence in medical education
  • Service to the academic life of a college and/or university system. Where appropriate, contributions to the professional or lay community pertinent to the candidate's professional training may meet the service criterion.
  • Scholarly contributions to the candidate's field appropriate for the appointment of lecturer.
  • Experience in practicing forensic pathology
  • Excellent communication, organization, collaboration, and leadership skills
