Job summary

Elevance Health, a health company focused on improving lives and communities, seeks a Rural Health Associate Medical Director on a part-time contract basis in Connecticut. You will provide day-to-day clinical leadership under a Medical Director, support credentialing and quality initiatives, and participate in peer-to-peer reviews and on-call rotations as needed.

The role requires MD/DO with board certification in Psychiatry and an active CT medical license.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience, or equivalent.
  • Addiction psychiatry expertise preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day guidance, support, and leadership for clinical and quality activities under the guidance of a Medical Director.
  • Support one or more Medical Directors to ensure clinical integrity of programs, and participate in peer-to-peer reviews.
  • May participate in on-call rotation and assist in credentialing and quality initiatives.

Responsible for providing day-to-day guidance, support, and leadership for clinical and/or quality activities under the guidance of a Medical Director. May be responsible for supporting one or more Medical Directors in ensuring clinical integrity of broad and significant clinical programs. May perform clinical review.

This is a PART-TIME contract role.
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • May provide clinical guidance for programs.
  • Supports clinicians to ensure timely and consistent responses to members and providers.
  • Conducts peer-to-peer clinical reviews with attending physicians or other ordering providers to discuss review determinations, and patients, office visits with providers and external physicians.
  • May conduct peer-to-peer clinical appeal case reviews with attending physicians or other ordering providers to discuss review determinations.
  • May participate in a physician on-call rotation for a 24x7 unit.
  • May assist in the practitioner appeal reviews, appropriateness criteria reviews, medical technology assessments, setting and implementing QI initiatives, and practitioner/provider credentialing.
  • Under direction, may be responsible for the administration of medical services for company health plans including medical policies.
  • Serves as a resource and consultant to other areas of the company.
  • May interpret existing medical policy.
  • May be required to represent the company to external entities and/or serve on internal and/or external committees.
  • The RH Associate Medical Director role will also be responsible for supporting the Medical Director in ensuring clinical integrity of broad and significant clinical programs.
Requirements

Requires MD or DO degrees and Board certification in general Psychiatry approved by one of the following certifying boards: American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA).

Must possess an active unrestricted medical license to practice medicine in the state of Connecticut. Unless expressly allowed by state or federal law, or regulation, must be located in a state or territory of the United States when conducting utilization review or an appeals consideration and cannot be located on a US military base, vessel or any embassy located in or outside of the US.

Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Demonstrated clinical experience in the field of addiction psychiatry or treatment of substance use disorders; certification in addiction psychiatry/medicine by ABPN, ASAM, or ABAM is preferred, but not required.

Formal training in epidemiology, public health, or data science is preferred, but not required.

Location:

Must be licensed and reside in Connecticut - Rocky Hills Pulse Point (prefer residency in CT, but open to surrounding cities/states as long as candidate can obtain or already holds a Connecticut license).

The part-time Rural Health (RH) Associate Medical Director is responsible for providing day-to-day guidance, leadership, and support for clinical, quality, and network management activities designed to improve access and quality of services in rural areas of Connecticut.

20 hours per week (part-time role)

May occasionally be asked to attend in person meetings with team, state partners, and providers.

Elevance Health operates in a Hybrid Workforce Strategy. Unless specified as primarily virtual by the hiring manager, contractors are required to work at an Elevance Health location at least once per week, and potentially several times per week. Specific requirements and expectations for time onsite will be discussed as part of the hiring process. Candidates must reside within a reasonable commute from an Elevance Health location.
