Job summary

Elevance Health seeks an MD/DO with ABMS/AOA board certification to provide clinical guidance for programs, support clinicians, and perform peer-to-peer reviews in child and adolescent psychiatry and related areas.

This contract, part-time (17.5 hours/week), hybrid role requires CT licensure and residence, with on-site presence at Elevance Health locations as needed. Start is anticipated Oct 26, 2026, subject to change.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO with ABMS/AOA board certification where applicable.
  • Active unrestricted medical license to practice medicine or health profession.
  • Connecticut license required; must reside in CT.
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience; or equivalent.
  • Specialization in child/adolescent psychiatry; experience in autism, school-based mental health, and/or addiction psychiatry.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical guidance for programs.
  • Support clinicians to ensure timely responses to members and providers.
  • Conduct peer-to-peer clinical reviews with attending physicians or other ordering providers.
  • May conduct peer-to-peer clinical appeal case reviews.
  • May participate in a physician on-call rotation for a 24x7 unit.
  • Assist in credentialing and QA initiatives and medical policy interpretation.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • May provide clinical guidance for programs.
  • Supports clinicians to ensure timely and consistent responses to members and providers.
  • Conducts peer-to-peer clinical reviews with attending physicians or other ordering providers to discuss review determinations, and patients' office visits with providers and external physicians.
  • May conduct peer-to-peer clinical appeal case reviews with attending physicians or other ordering providers to discuss review determinations.
  • May participate in a physician on-call rotation for a 24x7 unit.
  • May assist in the practitioner appeal reviews, appropriateness criteria reviews, medical technology assessments, setting and implementing QI initiatives, and practitioner/provider credentialing.
  • Under direction, may be responsible for the administration of medical services for company health plans including medical policies.
  • Serves as a resource and consultant to other areas of the company.
  • May interpret existing medical policy.
  • May be required to represent the company to external entities and/or serve on internal and/or external committees.
Requirements
  • Requires MD or DO and Board certification approved by one of the following certifying boards is required, where applicable to duties being performed, American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
  • Must possess an active unrestricted medical license to practice medicine or a health profession.
  • Unless expressly allowed by state or federal law, or regulation, must be located in a state or territory of the United States when conducting utilization review or an appeals consideration and cannot be located on a US military base, vessel or any embassy located in or outside of the US.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
  • Candidates should demonstrate strong clinical experience and subject matter expertise in child and adolescent psychiatry, with additional experience in general psychiatry, autism spectrum disorders, school-based mental health, and/or addiction psychiatry or the treatment of substance use disorders.
Job Type:

Contract with possible extension.

Location: Must be licensed and reside in Connecticut (prefer residency in CT, but open to surrounding cities/states as long as candidate can obtain or already holds a Connecticut license)
Please note: This is a PART TIME position (17.5 hours weekly).

Elevance Health operates in a Hybrid Workforce Strategy. Unless specified as primarily virtual by the hiring manager, contractors are required to work at an Elevance Health location at least once per week, and potentially several times per week. Specific requirements and expectations for time onsite will be discussed as part of the hiring process. Candidates must be within a reasonable commute to a PulsePoint location.
