Job summary

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital seeks a Medical Data Analyst / Outpatient Coder to perform diagnostic and procedural coding for inpatients, ambulatory surgery, and outpatients. You will review records, abstract information, and assign APCs per guidelines, communicating with physicians as needed to ensure accurate coding.

The role is a full-time hybrid position based at our Midtown Manhattan Corporate Office, with on-site presence required and collaboration with physicians and documentation

Qualifications

  • College level coursework in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • 2-3 years of medical record experience essential, preferably in acute care or computerized environment.
  • 1-2 years demonstrated coding experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of ICD-10CM, HCPCS, and applicable APR/DRG grouper coding schemes.
  • Proficient computer skills and experience with electronic health record systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic and procedural coding for inpatients, ambulatory surgery and outpatients.
  • Review, abstract and apply diagnostic coding and APC assignment per guidelines.
  • Identify attending physician and clinical service for accuracy and clarification with physicians.
  • Prepare abstracts for mandated registry programs and resubmit data when needed.

Medical Data Analyst / Outpatient Coder

In this role the Medical Data Analyst performs diagnostic and procedural coding for inpatients, ambulatory surgery and outpatients. Utilizing medical record, you’ll review, abstract and apply appropriate diagnostic coding and APC assignment of outpatient and ambulatory surgery patient records according to coding guidelines as applicable according to patient type. You’ll review and analyze the medical record to accurately assign the responsible Attending Physician and Clinical Service in accordance with established guidelines and communicate with physicians as appropriate to clarify documentation as related to APC or coding assignment. You’ll prepare abstract information in accordance with mandated hospital, state, and federal registry programs and correct and resubmit data from abstracts as identified through edit reports from said registries.

This is a full time hybrid position, 5 days a week. located at our Midtown Manhattan Corporate Office.

Preferred Criteria
  • CCS or RHIT (formerly ART)
Required Criteria
