Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a coder/abstracter to assign accurate ICD-10 and CPT codes for inpatient, outpatient and emergency encounters in line with official guidelines.

Qualifications include an associate degree or greater in health information technology or related field, 2–3 years coding experience, and credentials such as CPC/CCS/RHIT/CCA. Strong analytical and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher required; 2–3 years coding experience with familiarity with coding software if only an associate degree.
• Certification in coding (CPC, CCS, RHIT, CCA, CPC-A or equivalent) is required.
• Strong analytical and communication skills to resolve coding issues and work with teams.

Responsibilities

• Assign accurate codes for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency encounters per medical records.
• Follow ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines and official guidelines from AMA/AHA/AHIMA.
• Ensure adherence to MUSC HIM policies and procedures and communicate coding issues clearly.
