Job summary

Minnesota Urology is seeking a dedicated Coding Specialist to join our Business Services team in Minnesota. You will accurately link ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS codes to daily charges and review coding practices to ensure timely, compliant billing.

Responsibilities include auditing documentation, educating providers, maximizing reimbursement, and assisting with denials. This role supports a Monday–Friday schedule with hybrid options after 90 days in the office.

Qualifications

• CPC through AAPC, CCS through AHIMA, RHIT through AHIMA, or RHIA through AHIMA are required within the first year.
• Two or more years of coding experience preferred.
• EMR experience required; experience with UroChart and NextGen is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Monitors daily flow of office, hospital, and laboratory charges to ensure accuracy and timeliness of entry.
• Verifies and audits provider documentation.
• Provides feedback and education to providers as needed to ensure documentation and compliance standards are met.
• Links ICD-10 codes to CPT and HCPCS codes correctly and completely prior to processing for billing, insurance filing and revenue reporting.
• Maximizes reimbursement through correct coding utilizing ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS.
• Works insurance denials with prompt turnaround to aid in appeals.
• Provides complete and accurate information to patients requesting coding and pricing guidance for care and coverage.
• Attends various external meetings/conferences/seminars to enhance professional development and growth on a regular basis.
• Other duties as assigned.

POSITION TITLE: Coding Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Business Services

REPORTS TO: Business Services Manager

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

To accurately link ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS codes to daily charges, ensure ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS codes are updated and reviewed regularly for accuracy, monitor physician and physician extender coding practices, and ensure that all charges are accounted for and entered in a timely manner.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/LICENSURE:

• Completion in one of the following programs required within first year of starting in the position:
• CPC through AAPC
• CCS though AHIMA
• RHIT through AHIMA
• RHIA through AHIMA
• Two or more years of coding experience preferred.
• Previous independent specialty physician practice experience preferred.
• Previous EMR experience required. Experience with UroChart and Next Gen Practice Management System preferred, not required.
