Job summary

Minnesota Urology in Bloomington, MN is seeking a Coding Specialist to accurately link ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS codes to charges and ensure coding accuracy. This role monitors billing entries, audits provider documentation, and provides feedback to clinicians to maintain compliance.

The Coding Specialist will use NextGen, UroChart, and Microsoft Office to enter and review codes, and will participate in external meetings for professional development.

Qualifications

• Completion in one of the listed programs within first year of starting the position.
• Two or more years of coding experience preferred.
• EMR experience required; familiarity with UroChart and NextGen is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Monitors daily flow of office, hospital, and laboratory charges to ensure accuracy and timeliness of entry.
• Verifies and audits provider documentation.
• Provides feedback and education to providers to ensure documentation and compliance.
• Links ICD-10 codes to CPT and HCPCS codes correctly and completely prior to processing for billing, insurance filing and revenue reporting.
• Maximizes reimbursement through correct coding utilizing ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS.
• Works insurance denials with prompt turnaround to aid in appeals.
• Provides complete and accurate information to patients requesting coding and pricing guidance for care and coverage.
• Attends various external meetings/conferences/seminars to enhance professional development and growth on a regular basis.
• Other duties as assigned.

POSITION TITLE:

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

To accurately link ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS codes to daily charges, ensure ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS codes are updated and reviewed regularly for accuracy, monitor physician and physician extender coding practices, and ensure that all charges are accounted for and entered in a timely manner.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/LICENSURE:

• Completion in one of the following programs required within first year of starting in the position:
• CPC through AAPC
• CCS though AHIMA
• RHIT through AHIMA
• RHIA through AHIMA
• Two or more years of coding experience preferred.
• Previous independent specialty physician practice experience preferred.
• Previous EMR experience required. Experience with UroChart and Next Gen Practice Management System preferred, not required.
