Job summary

My Ideal Recruiter is seeking a hands-on coding leader for an orthopedic surgical practice in Atlanta. You will own CPT coding accuracy for surgical cases and partner with collections to improve reimbursement outcomes.

The role includes managing prior authorizations, handling both standard insurance billing and personal injury cases, and building an in-house coding team as volume grows.

Qualifications

• Solid background in orthopedic surgical coding (spine and extremities).
• Experience leading or mentoring a coding/billing team.
• Certified medical coder (CPC, CCS, or equivalent) preferred.
• Comfortable with insurance billing and attorney-driven personal injury claims.
• On-site five days a week.

Responsibilities

• Drive day-to-day accuracy of CPT coding for surgical cases, ensuring claims go out correctly coded.
• Partner closely with the collections lead as a co-owner of billing and collections outcomes.
• Manage the prior authorization process for upcoming surgical procedures.
• Navigate between coding approaches for different claim types while staying compliant.
• Lead, train, and grow a small in-house coding team as volume increases.
• Apply sound judgment to coding edge cases rather than rigid rules.

What You'll Own

• Partner closely with the collections lead as a true co-owner of billing and collections outcomes - this is a shared function, not a solo one, and you'll bring feedback and ideas to improve it.
• Manage the prior authorization process for upcoming surgical procedures.
• Move fluidly between coding approaches depending on claim type - commercial/insurance versus attorney-driven personal injury cases - while staying compliant and defensible.
• Lead, train, and grow a small in-house medical coding team that is expected to expand as volume increases.
• Apply sound judgment to coding edge cases rather than rigid, one-size-fits-all rule application.
• Act as the go-to person for coding questions across the practice.
