Job description

The Coding Lead is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the coding team and ensuring coding activities are completed accurately, efficiently, and within established timelines. This role provides direction and support to coding staff while serving as a key liaison between the coding team and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and resolve coding edits to ensure timely and accurate completion along with communicating trends to coders


• Monitor and address account holds, ensuring appropriate follow-up and resolution


• Assign workloads and distribute accounts to coding staff based on volume and priorities


• Train and onboard new coders, including providing guidance on workflows, systems, and quality expectations


• Responsible for timesheet approval and reconciliation along with production monitoring.


• Coding as needed


• Maintain open and consistent communication with leadership, team members and facility leadership


• Provide ongoing support, feedback, and mentorship to coding staff to improve performance and accuracy

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Proven experience in medical coding in both professional and facility(specialty or multi-specialty preferred)


• Strong knowledge of NCCI and payor specific edits


• Strong understanding of coding guidelines, compliance, and audit processes


• Demonstrated leadership or mentoring experience


• Excellent organizational and time management skills


• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities


• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
