Position Summary:

Codes accurately and productively with abstraction to assigned medical records, meeting Official Coding guidelines for reimbursement, indexing, and statistical requirements of the hospital. Maintains production and accuracy standards consistently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Accurately codes and sequences all diagnoses and procedures documented in the medical record according to established official coding guidelines, principles, and reimbursement standards.
  2. Utilizes Computer Assisted Coding software following assigned workflows.
  3. Accurately abstracts required data entering into the Computer Assisted Coding system.
  4. Works with Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists to ensure clear, concise, and specific documentation from physicians when clarification is needed.
  5. Issues accurate coding queries following AHIMA guidelines and assists with documentation clarification.
  6. Assists with special projects and reports as requested.
  7. Remote position following training and meeting production/quality standards.
  8. Promotes a clean and safe environment of care, utilizing SAFE error prevention habits.
  9. Maintains privacy and confidentiality in all matters involving patients, coworkers, and the hospital, abiding by the Standards of Conduct.
Required Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree in Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Bachelor Degree in Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist Certificate (CCS).
  • MS-DRG knowledge required; APR-DRG knowledge is a plus. Acute Care Hospital Coding experience required. 3M Encoder experience preferred. Experience with Cerner, Meditech, Optum System preferred.
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required.

Various, registry 10-20 hours a week.
