Medical Coder I/II

Primary location: Macon, GA 31207. Other locations may be considered.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate medical record documentation and charge ticket coding to optimize reimbursement by ensuring that diagnostic and procedural codes accurately reflect and support patient encounters.
- Provide technical guidance to physicians and other department staff in identifying and resolving issues or errors.
- Work under minimal supervision while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
Qualifications
- Coder I – High school diploma or GED, at least one year of coding experience or six months of coding experience with an accreditation certificate.
- Coder II – High school diploma or GED, AHIMA or AAPC certification required, and one year of experience using ICD and CPT codes in a physician practice, hospital or clinic.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understand the relationship between CPT and ICD codes to ensure accurate billing.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of health‑care providers to query specific coding information.
- Resolve queries regarding diagnoses, procedures, and code selection through research and communication.
- Know Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) regulations for reimbursement and claim submission timeliness.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and other confidential data.
- Understand the billing cycle, commercial insurance adjustments, and balance billing.
