Job summary

Optum seeks a professional coder to assign CPT and ICD-10 codes for Primary Care and Family Medicine, monitor work queues, and generate queries when documentation needs clarification. Telecommute from anywhere in the United States and stay current with coding guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• AHIMA and/or AAPC certification (CPC/COC/CPC-P/CCS) required and maintained annually.
• 2+ years of experience with Windows PCs, MS Excel, and EMR systems.
• 2+ years of ICD-10 and CPT coding with focus in Primary Care and Family Medicine.

Responsibilities

• Assigns CPT and ICD-10 codes for services.
• Monitors work queues to ensure timely charging and coding.
• Generates coding queries for clarification of physician documentation.
• Keeps up to date with coding conventions and updates.
• Works under deadlines with minimal supervision.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assigns accurate diagnostic and procedure codes according to clinical documentation and official coding guidelines for Primary Care and Family Med
• Assigns CPT and ICD-10 codes to all services
• Monitors assigned work queues to ensure all records are charged/coded in a timely manner
• Generates coding queries for clarification regarding physician documentation as needed
• Stays abreast of all changes in coding conventions and coding updates
• Ability to manage significant workload, and to work efficiently under pressure meeting established deadlines with minimal supervision
• All other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Professional coder certification with credentialing from AHIMA and/or AAPC (CPC, COC, CPC-P, CCS) to be maintained annually
• 2+ years of experience with PCs in a Windows environment, including MS Excel and EMR systems
• 2+ years of experience with ICD-10 and CPT coding with a focus in Primary Care and Family Med

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2+ years of post-certification medical coding experience
• 2+ years of Outpatient Physician coding (Pro-Fee) experience
• Experience with EMR systems (Epic)

The hourly pay for this role will range from $20.00 to $36.00 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
