Ringgold County Hospital – Mount Ayr, Iowa is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Coder to review medical documentation and assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes to support correct billing, reimbursement, and compliance. This role emphasizes accuracy, confidentiality, and teamwork in a close-knit healthcare environment.

The Medical Coder will stay current with coding regulations, work with clinical and business staff, and participate in audits and revenue cycle activities as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Medical coding certification preferred (CPC, CCS, CCA, or equivalent).
• Previous medical coding experience preferred, particularly in a hospital or healthcare setting.
• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
• Understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information appropriately.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records and clinical documentation to determine appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes.
• Ensure documentation supports the codes assigned and identify documentation requiring clarification.
• Review claims and coding information for accuracy and completeness.
• Assist with resolving coding-related billing and reimbursement issues.
• Maintain knowledge of current coding regulations, payer requirements, and Medicare/Medicaid guidelines.
• Monitor coding practices for compliance with applicable federal and state regulations.
• Communicate with clinical and business office staff regarding documentation and coding questions.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
• Participate in audits, quality improvement activities, and other duties related to the revenue cycle as needed.
