Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina's MCP is seeking a coder/abstracter responsible for accurate code assignment of inpatient, outpatient and emergency services according to ICD-10 and CPT, in line with AMA, AHA and AHIMA guidelines.

The ideal candidate has attention to detail, strong organizational and communication skills, and knowledge of coding systems; this hourly, 40-hour per week role follows MUSC policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; coding certification preferred (e.g., CPC, CCS).
• Basic knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding systems.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Good communication skills and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Accurately assign ICD-10 and CPT codes for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency records.
• Ensure coding complies with AMA, AHA, and AHIMA guidelines.
• Follow MUSC HIM policies and procedures.
