Job summary

Baptist Memorial Health Care is seeking an inpatient coder to accurately code diagnoses and procedures for hospital records, supporting reimbursement and research efforts.

The role requires expertise in ICD-CM and CPT coding within an acute care setting, with a focus on accuracy and clear documentation. Knowledge of regulatory requirements and collaboration with physicians and staff is essential.

Qualifications

• Proficient in ICD-CM Diagnosis and CPT coding for inpatient records.
• Experience in an acute care facility (minimum 2 years; 4 years preferred).
• Ability to communicate clearly and write legibly to document coding accurately.

Responsibilities

• Codes diagnoses and procedures of records pertaining to inpatient records.
• Abstracts information by reviewing records for reimbursement, statistical purposes for daily operations, medical staff, and regulatory agencies.

Minimum Education

Skill in communicating clearly and effectively using standard English in written, oral and verbal format to achieve high productivity and efficiency. Skill to write legibly and record information accurately as necessary to perform job duties.

Minimum Experience

Skill and proficiency in coding inpatient records utilizing ICD CM and CPT through a minimum of 2 years' experience in an acute care facility, 4 years preferred.

Minimum Training

ICD-CM Diagnosis and Procedure Coding.

CPT Coding

Licensure Description

One of the following: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
