Job summary

APN Staffing & Employment Solutions is seeking a Medical Coder in Cranston, RI for a one-year contract. The role involves coding from paper records, interpreting inpatient and outpatient documents, and ensuring accurate HCFA, ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding to maximize reimbursement.

Typical hours are Monday–Friday 8:00/9:00 am to 4:00/5:00 pm; the position pays $36.17 per hour. Travel between Cranston and Burrillville/Pascoag may be required; you must use your own vehicle.

Qualifications

• Education from college of recognized standing with specialization in medical record science or nursing with CCS/CPC certification.
• Strong ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 experience required.
• Experience coding CPT-4 in reimbursement in hospital settings.
• Medical Coding certificate and ICD-10 certification required.

Responsibilities

• Code from paper records, no electronic medical records used.
• Review and extract diagnostic, procedural and demographic information.
• Maximize reimbursement through correct HCFA, ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 application.
• Flag questionable cases for physician or director review.

APN Staffing is now hiring for a Medical Coder for our client in Rhode Island. This position is full time Monday - Friday from (8:00 am to 4:00 pm or 9 a to 5 pm). This is a contract position for one year and is not permanent employment with the State of Rhode Island.

*****Hourly rate of pay is $36.17 an hour*****

General Job Duties:

• Coding will be from paper, facility does not electronic medical records
• Work with paper file to review, evaluate and correctly interpret in-patient and out-patient medical records and extract pertinent diagnostic, procedural and demographic information
• Maximize financial reimbursement through proper interpretation and application of HCFA, ICD-10CM and CPT-4 rules and regulations
• Review questionable or poorly documented cases to the attention of the physician of record, Medical Records Director or Medical Director for discussion, clarification and resolution.

General Requirements:

• Education - may have been gained through graduation from a college of recognized standing with specialization in medical record science; or graduation from a school of nursing, and certification as a CCS by AHIMA or CPC through AAPC
• Strong emphasis on ICD-10 and CPT-4 experience
• Experience working with the CPT-4 classification system in the reimbursement area in an approved public or private hospital (OR) any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience
• Medical Coding certificate and be ICD10 certified
• Travel between Cranston and Burrillville/Pascoag may be required (expenses are not reimbursed, must use own vehicle and valid driver's license)
