Job Summary

The Billing Specialist is responsible for overseeing the entire billing process for patient accounts, including submitting all billings to insurance in a timely manner, collaborating with our coding specialist to ensure accurate coding, leading monthly coding audits, and managing insurance collections.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Electronically submit patient procedure bills to third-party payers.
  2. Perform timely and accurate postings of payments received from third-party payers and/or patients.
  3. Process all rejected and denied claims submitted to third-party payers promptly and accurately.
  4. Contact insurance companies to collect outstanding payments.
  5. Monitor and collect accounts receivable (AR) aging.
  6. Interpret managed care contracts, Medicare, Medicaid, and Workers Compensation claims.
  7. Identify accounts that have been underpaid or overpaid.
  8. Issue credit balance information to insurance carriers or patients.
  9. Demonstrate excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  10. Work independently and collaboratively with other business office staff.
  11. Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance.
  12. Work well in stressful environments and situations requiring patience.
Required Skills
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. At least 3 years of experience in medical billing, with extensive knowledge of claims reimbursement and collection efforts for Managed Care, Medicare, Medicaid, Workers' Compensation, and Commercial plans.
  3. Deep understanding of billing, collections, and reimbursement processes.
  4. Fluency in medical terminology and CPT codes.
  5. Ability to work independently.
  6. Strong organizational, time management, and task prioritization skills.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  8. Outstanding customer service skills, demonstrating professionalism at all times.
  9. Critical thinking skills.
  10. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  11. Understanding of healthcare policies, including HIPAA regulations.
