Job summary

One Health Ohio is seeking a Medical Billing Specialist to join our team. You will prepare and submit claims, answer patient and insurer inquiries, and resolve billing issues while ensuring accuracy and HIPAA compliance.

The role supports accurate statements, payment plans, and timely collections processes. The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of medical billing experience, familiarity with EMR systems, and a preference for certified coder credentials.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years experience medical billing.
• Certified coder preferred.
• Experience with HIPAA compliance.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and submits clean claims to insurers electronically or on paper.
• Answers questions from patients, staff, and insurers.
• Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints.
• Prepares and sends patient statements and reviews accounts.
• Evaluates financial status and sets up budget payment plans.
• Follows delinquent accounts and reports status as needed.
• Performs daily backups and handles collections actions.
• Maintains confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines.

Essential Job Functions:

• Prepares and submits clean claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper.
• Answers questions from patients, clerical staff, and insurance companies.
• Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints.
• Prepares, reviews, and sends patient statements.
• Evaluates patient’s financial status and establishes budget payment plans.
• Follows and reports the status of delinquent accounts.
• Reviews accounts for possible assignment and makes recommendations to the Director of Billing and Reimbursement, also prepares information for the collection agency.
• Performs daily backups on the office computer system.
• Performs various collection actions including contacting patients by phone, correcting, and resubmitting claims to third‑party payers.
• Processes payments from insurance companies and prepares a daily deposit.
• Participates in educational activities and attends monthly staff meetings.
• Conducts self‑in accordance with employee handbook.
• Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
• Ensures accurate billing and coding as per regulations.
• Works with administrator in training providers in coding and EMR system.

Education and Experience:

• Minimum of 2 years experience medical billing (Preferred)
• Certified Coder (Preferred)

Physical Requirements

• Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time
• Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction
• Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard
• Communication skills using the spoken word
• Ability to see within normal parameters
• Ability to hear within normal range
• Ability to move about
