Job summary

Next STEPS Worldwide in McKinney, TX is seeking a Billing Specialist/Denials Specialist to join our outpatient clinic billing team. You will review denied claims, manage denials, post payments, and ensure timely reimbursement while maintaining accurate accounts in our EMR system.

You will collaborate with intake, clinical, and billing staff to fix issues, appeal when needed, and produce denial trend reports to support ongoing revenue cycle improvements in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 3+ years' medical billing/denial management experience preferred.
• Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 and payer billing procedures.
• Experience with electronic claim submission and payer portals.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Review and manage denied or rejected insurance claims to ensure timely resolution.
• Identify denial patterns and coordinate with internal teams to correct errors.
• Submit corrected claims and appeal letters with documentation.
• Post and reconcile payments, adjustments, and write-offs in the EMR and billing system.
• Maintain understanding of payer-specific billing requirements and timelines.
• Collaborate with intake, clinical, and billing teams to ensure claims accuracy.
• Generate reports on denial trends and recovery outcomes; support revenue cycle initiatives.
