Job summary

Superior Ambulance Service seeks a Medical Coder for its Billing Department in an in-office role, based in Elmhurst, IL or Taylor, MI. The position trains the right candidate and supports accuracy in medical coding and documentation.

Responsibilities include reviewing reports, maintaining departmental communication, and ensuring timely coding with high accuracy. Candidates should have a HS diploma and knowledge of medical terminology.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Excellent verbal communications skills.
• Ability to multi-task and handle stress when busy.
• Positive and professional attitude at all times.
• Computer literate; typing at least 35 WPM.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Reviews patient care reports to establish medical necessity and levels of service.
• Maintains line of communication with internal/external departments to obtain missing documentation.
• Refer reports to Processing Manager for coding or documentation questions.
• Communicate with other departments for problem resolution and clarification.
• Assigns condition codes for trip reasons with high accuracy.
• Meets established coding productivity standards and ensures timely records.
• Reports daily productivity to the Processing Manager per guidelines.
• Uses email, Excel and Word to complete work assignments.
• Attends department meetings and education sessions to enhance knowledge of coding guidelines.
