Job summary

Superior Ambulance Service is seeking a Medical Coder for our Billing Department. The role is fully in-office, Monday through Friday, based in Elmhurst, IL or Taylor, MI.

You will review patient care reports, ensure medical necessity, and assign accurate service levels and codes, while collaborating with internal teams to resolve documentation gaps. Prior experience is helpful, and we offer training.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School Diploma or equivalency.
• Preferred coursework toward Healthcare Billing Certification.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task under stress.
• Computer literate and proficient with software.
• Typing of at least 35 WPM.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret common knowledge.
• Ability to respond to inquiries and forward appropriate complaints.
• Ability to present information to management.

Responsibilities

• Reviews patient care reports to establish medical necessity and service levels.
• Maintains professional communication with internal/external departments.
• Refs patient care reports to Processing Manager for coding questions.
• Communicates with departments for problem resolution.
• Assigns condition codes with high accuracy.
• Meets established coding productivity standards.
• Monitors work and ensures timely accurate coding.
• Reports productivity to Processing Manager daily.
• Uses email, Excel and Word for tasks.
• Attends department meetings and training on coding guidelines.
