Medical Assistant - Williamsburg Family Practice

Overview

The Medical Assistant is responsible for patient care, technical, and clerical functions under the supervision of the physician and practice manager. They manage clinic patient flow, assist the care team, and support quality and safe care. May float to other practices within the region to support operational needs.

What you will do

  • Maintain clinical competency by adhering to standards, updating and verifying patient records, preparing patients for exams, obtaining vital signs, and ensuring exam rooms are sanitized and stocked. Administer medications and vaccines under supervision, process prescription refills, and maintain medical inventory. Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, HIPAA, and OSHA. Complete required competencies and education to provide safe care.
  • Serve as a liaison between physicians and patients, providing support and comfort. Offer excellent customer service, manage patient expectations, assist with appointments and referrals, and educate patients per protocol and provider instructions.
  • Have knowledge of lab procedures, including specimen collection, phlebotomy, and point-of-care testing. Properly process specimens, obtain preauthorizations, and document testing accurately in the electronic health record.
  • Follow insurance guidelines and Medicare regulations. Maintain knowledge of ICD9 and CPT coding, obtain prior authorizations, and schedule tests and specialist visits within network limitations.
  • Support productivity goals, maximize facility resources, and contribute to quality measures.
