Job summary

Brown Health Medical Group Primary Care seeks a Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support in a busy ambulatory setting. The role supports pediatric to geriatric patients under supervision and follows established policies and protocols.

Responsibilities include preparing patients, performing point-of-care tests, assisting with exams, administering vaccines, and coordinating tests and referrals.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Medical Assistant certification preferred.
• Graduate of a formal Medical Assistant training program or a minimum of three years of Medical Assistant experience required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for examinations, documents vital signs and histories in the EMR.
• Performs pre-visit planning by reviewing records and test results.
• Performs point-of-care testing such as blood pressure, EKG, glucose, urine tests, and rapid strep.
• Assists providers with examinations and procedures using aseptic techniques.
• Administers vaccines and places PPDs according to protocols.
• Tracks laboratory orders and results, referrals, and reports; conducts patient outreach as needed.
• Provides patient education regarding procedures, testing, and follow-up care.
• Schedules tests and follow-up appointments; verifies demographics and insurance; obtains prior authorizations as needed.
• Maintains clean, stocked examination rooms and medical equipment.
• Supports administrative duties and patient communication; maintains patient privacy and infection control.

SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support in an ambulatory setting under the supervision of the Ambulatory Clinical Manager, Practice Manager, and Licensed Independent Practitioner. The role supports patient- and family-centered care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients while following established policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepares patients for examinations, obtains and documents vital signs, chief complaints, medication reconciliation, medical histories, pain scores, and other required information in the EMR.
• Performs pre-visit planning by reviewing patient records, recent test results, consultations, and correspondence.
• Performs point-of-care testing, including blood pressure, EKG, pulse oximetry, Hgb A1-C, glucose, urinalysis, urine HCG, rapid strep testing, and other approved tests.
• Assists providers with physical examinations and procedures using appropriate aseptic techniques.
• Administers vaccines and places PPDs according to established protocols.
• Tracks laboratory orders and results, referrals, and consultation reports and conducts patient outreach as needed.
• Reports abnormal laboratory results promptly to the physician or nurse.
• Provides patient education regarding procedures, testing preparation, follow-up care, and coordination of services.
• Schedules tests and follow-up appointments, verifies demographic and insurance information, and obtains prior authorizations as needed.
• Maintains clean, stocked, and properly prepared examination rooms and medical equipment.
• Assists with administrative duties, patient correspondence, prescription refill requests, and other office needs.
• Maintains patient privacy, confidentiality, infection-control standards, and established safety procedures.
• Supports efficient patient flow and works collaboratively as part of the healthcare team.
• Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Medical Assistant certification preferred.
• Graduate of a formal Medical Assistant training program or a minimum of three years of Medical Assistant experience required.

PAY RANGE

Pay Range: $18.13-$29.90
