GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Under the direction of the provider and as a member of the health care team, assists in coordinating examination, treatment, and healthcare planning for patients. Supports office functions to ensure smooth patient care and operations. Adheres to all protocols, policies, procedures, and workflows.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist in coordinating patient care under supervision of the healthcare provider, using a team-based approach.
  2. Prepare and room patients according to standardized workflows. Obtain vital signs, document patient information, history, tobacco and medication screening. Assist with depression screening tools and annual wellness visits. Review and update medication and social history in the EHR. Queue orders for screenings, prescriptions, and refills as per protocols.
  3. Perform back-office testing following approved protocols and policies.
  4. Assist providers during examinations and procedures.
  5. May serve as a scribe with additional training.
  6. Follow up with patients via preferred method (phone, electronic, written) as per provider instructions. Notify patients of test results timely under provider guidance.
  7. Prepare exam rooms, ensure inventory of supplies, and stock treatment areas appropriately.
  8. Clean and sterilize instruments per policy and manufacturer guidelines.
  9. Perform lab controls and equipment checks as assigned.
  10. Administer and document medications accurately, following policies and safety practices.
  11. Document all activities accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
  12. Perform clerical duties and other assigned tasks.
  13. May need to float or travel between different physician office locations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • High School / GED
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program OR 1 year of Medical Assistant experience OR 1 year in a direct patient care role with duties such as vital signs, injections, phlebotomy, EKGs. Candidate experience must align with clinical duties.
  • CPR – American Heart Association
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Clearance

Certification Requirements:

  • Graduated from a medical assistant program within five years OR have one year of work experience as a medical assistant in the last three years. Must complete certification training and/or testing within 30 days of hire and obtain certification within 120 days.
  • Accepted certifications include NHA, AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA.

Employees not meeting these criteria may have an opportunity to sit for a company proctored certification exam when qualified.

Preferred:

  • Associate's Degree
