Job summary

University Physicians' Association is seeking a qualified Medical Assistant (MA) to join University Surgeons Associates in Knoxville, TN. This full-time position supports providers in the clinic and by telephone, delivering quality patient care and ensuring efficient workflow.

As part of a care team you will take vital signs, input data into the EHR, assist with procedures, coordinate labs and pre/post-surgical information, and help manage prescriptions and chart preparation.

Qualifications

• Completion of MA training at an accredited school or at least 3-years of hands-on training from a medical facility or medical office.
• Certification or registration preferred.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients to exam rooms and perform weight and vital signs, inputting information into EHR.
• Assist provider with procedures.
• Schedule labs and procedures, including surgeries as ordered by provider, and notify patients as instructed by provider.
• Provide pre-surgical and post-surgical information to patients as requested by provider.
• Ensure lab and procedure results are available to provider in a timely manner and documented in EHR.
• Assist with patient prescriptions as directed by provider, including refill requests.
• Prepare for clinics - ensure all information is in patients’ charts for provider’s review; obtain records as appropriate.
• Clean exam rooms between patients and day end; stock supplies and order as needed.
• Manage EHR tasks and return calls appropriately, seek provider guidance as needed.
• Other tasks such as cleaning instruments, ordering supplies, managing samples log and checking medications for expirations.
• Prepare information for Pre-Certification Specialist to obtain necessary pre-certifications for surgeries, procedures and medications.

General Summary: Work as part of a team to assist one or more providers in giving excellent patient care to patients in the clinic or by telephone when necessary.

Essential Job Responsibilities

• Escort patients to the appropriate exam room and perform weight and vital signs, including BPs and then inputting information into EHR, along with other medical history and information.
• Assist provider with procedures.
• Schedule labs and procedures, including surgeries as ordered by provider, completing and sending any required forms. Notify patients as instructed by provider.
• Provide pre-surgical and post-surgical information to patients as requested by provider.
• Ensure lab and procedure results are available to provider in a timely manner and documented appropriately in EHR.
• Assist with patient prescriptions as directed by provider, including refill requests.
• Prepare for clinics - look at future schedules and ensure all information available is located in patients’ charts for provider’s review. Find and request medical records as appropriate.
• Clean exam rooms between patient and at end of the day. Keep rooms stocked with all essential supplies. Ensure supplies are ordered when needed.
• Keep up with all EHR tasks and return all telephone calls appropriately, requesting guidance from the provider as needed.
• Other tasks as assigned such as cleaning instruments, ordering supplies, managing samples log and checking medications for expirations.
• Prepare medical information needed for Pre-Certification Specialist in order to ensure all necessary pre-certifications are obtained. In some cases, be responsible for obtaining pre-certs for surgeries, procedures and medications.
