Job summary

University Physicians Association is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant (MA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) for University GYN Oncology on the UT Medical Center Campus in Knoxville, TN. The role supports patient care in a fast-paced clinic, working with licensed providers to ensure quality service and patient-centered outcomes.

You will handle rooming, vitals, specimen processing, and assist with gynecologic procedures, while educating patients about MyRisk testing and coordinating

Qualifications

  • Must have certification from a medical assistant program or military medical corpsman program.
  • Minimum 1-year medical experience in a clinical setting.
  • Strong clinical and patient care skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect patient care under supervision of licensed professionals.
  • Room patients, document vitals, and prepare for examinations.
  • Assist with pelvic exams, Pap smears, colposcopies, biopsies, and other procedures.
  • Perform wound care, dressing changes, and staple removal as directed.
  • Coordinate admissions and care with healthcare team.
  • Educate patients on MyRisk testing and assist with paperwork.
  • Process specimens for pathology and lab testing; coordinate shipments.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments and manage confirmations.
  • Maintain clinic inventory and order supplies.
  • Assist with prescription requests and other clinical support activities.

What You'll Do
Responsibilities

As a Medical Assistant, you will provide both direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals. Key responsibilities include:

Patient Care & Clinical Support
  • Room patients efficiently and ensure a smooth clinic flow.
  • Obtain and document vital signs and patient information accurately.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
  • Assist providers with:
    • Pelvic exams and Pap smears
    • Colposcopies
    • Biopsies
    • Additional office-based procedures
  • Perform wound care, dressing changes, and staple removal as directed.
  • Support patient admissions and coordinate care with other healthcare team members.
Patient Education & Communication
  • Educate patients regarding MyRisk genetic testing and assist with required paperwork.
  • Provide clear, compassionate communication to patients and families.
  • Respond promptly to patient questions and concerns.
  • Promote patient satisfaction through exceptional service and follow-up care.
  • Coordinate referrals, testing, imaging, and specialty appointments as needed.
Administrative & Clinical Operations
  • Prepare and process specimens for pathology and laboratory testing.
  • Coordinate the shipment of MyRisk testing specimens and documentation.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments and provide appointment confirmations.
  • Maintain clinic inventory and order supplies as needed.
  • Manage instrument transport to and from sterile processing.
  • Assist with prescription requests and other clinical support activities.
  • Ensure that patients are brought back to clinic and processed in a timely and efficient manner
  • Records vitals, place patients in exam rooms an ensure ROS/Medication sheet is accurately filled
  • Educate patient on MyRisk testing and process their paperwork.
  • Send MyRisk specimen and paperwork to MyRisk Facility
  • Assist with exam and procedures -pap smears, colposcope, biopsies, and tampons test
  • Remove staples or re-dress wounds
  • Properly label and send pap smears and biopsies for pathology pick-up
  • Schedule future appointment as appropriate during clinic give confirmations to patients
  • Order supplies as needed to maintain appropriate levels for patient care needs
  • Request outside slides/discs as needed
  • Call bed board for admission and page resident (if not in clinic)
