Job summary

Quincy Medical Group's Surgery Center in Illinois is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patients before and after outpatient surgical procedures. You will work with nurses, surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the perioperative team to ensure safe, compassionate care throughout the surgical journey.

Responsibilities include preparing patients for surgery, updating medical histories, assisting with recovery, and documenting in the EMR.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current CPR certification required (or ability to obtain).
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  • Experience in surgery, ambulatory care, or fast-paced clinical settings preferred.
  • Strong communication and multitasking abilities.

  • Escort patients through pre-operative steps with education and support.

Working alongside registered nurses, surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the perioperative team, you will help prepare patients for surgery, assist with recovery processes, and ensure each patient receives safe, compassionate, and efficient care throughout their surgical experience.This position is ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships with patients, thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment, and is committed to providing exceptional care during every step of the surgical journey.Schedule & Work EnvironmentFull-time position, Monday-Friday, daytime hours.Schedule may vary based on surgery schedules and departmental needs.No weekends, holidays, or overnight shifts.Fast-paced outpatient surgery center supporting patients through pre-operative preparation and post-anesthesia recovery.Collaborative team environment working closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and surgical services staff.Primary ResponsibilitiesPrepare patients for surgical procedures by obtaining vital signs, updating medical histories, reviewing medications, and documenting clinical information within the electronic medical record.Escort patients through the pre-operative process while providing compassionate support and education to help ease anxiety before surgery.Assist the nursing team with pre-operative and post-operative patient care, including room preparation, patient flow, and recovery support.Monitor and document patient status as directed and promptly communicate changes or concerns to the nursing team.Assist with specimen collection, medication administration, and other clinical duties within scope of practice.Maintain accurate patient documentation, including medication reconciliation, allergies, and patient instructions.Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing staff, and other departments to ensure efficient patient flow and timely surgical schedules.Prepare, stock, and maintain exam rooms, recovery areas, equipment, and supplies to ensure readiness for daily operations.Maintain infection prevention standards and ensure a clean, organized clinical environment.Provide outstanding customer service to patients and families while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.Perform other duties as assigned to support Surgery Center operations.QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED required.Current CPR certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire).Medical Assistant certification preferred.Previous experience as a Medical Assistant in surgery, ambulatory care, procedural specialties, or a fast-paced clinical environment preferred.Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.Ability to remain calm and compassionate while caring for patients undergoing surgical procedures.Experience with electronic medical records preferred.Commitment to delivering safe, patient-centered care and working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.BenefitsComprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits that include healthcare navigation assistance.Access to a mental health benefit at no cost.Employer provided life and disability insurance.$5,250 Tuition Reimbursement per year.Immediate 401(k) match.40 hours paid volunteer time off.A culture committed to community engagement and social impact.Up to 12 weeks parental leave at 100% pay and a financial benefit for adoption and surrogacy for non-physician team members once eligibility requirements are met.The compensation for this role includes a base pay range of $16.12 - $24.18 per hour determined by experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity.
