Job summary

Stormont Vail Health in Topeka, KS, is seeking a Medical Assistant to support the surgery services team on the first shift. The role assists nurses and providers, prepares rooms, performs selected clinical tasks, and helps maintain efficient workflow with a patient-centered focus.

Qualifications

  • Successfully completed first semester in an accredited nursing program.
  • Successfully completed a medical assistant or patient care technician program.
  • A Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or Patient Care Technician certification may be substituted for the educational requirement.
  • Experience in an office or clinic setting.

Responsibilities

  • Admit patients to exam rooms for office visits and procedures, following prescribed workflows.
  • Assist providers with examinations and procedures.
  • Retrieve voice mail messages, record, and route to licensed staff.
  • Document medical information using the appropriate electronic applications and/or forms.
  • Prepares and maintains patient’s medical record and charges while in the department, ensuring confidentiality of all patient information.
  • Coordinate patient services to include: lab tests, point of care testing, x-rays, diagnostic procedures, consults, home care, and acute care admissions.
  • Schedule patient appointments.
  • Assist with referrals, prior-authorizations, and benefit investigations.
  • Point of care testing and/or phlebotomy as indicated by work area.
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment, examination, and treatment rooms; restock.
  • Meets the needs of any patient in the department.
  • Applies proper techniques with simple dressing changes.
  • Maintains and follows proper procedure for sterile technique on dressing changes.
