Job summary

Corewell Health’s HDVCH Behavioral Health clinic in Grand Rapids seeks a Medical Assistant to support psychiatric and therapy services. Responsibilities include rooming patients, taking vitals, and handling scheduling and referrals in a fast-paced setting.

We require a High School Diploma or equivalent, MA training or equivalent experience, and EPIC proficiency. Certifications such as CMA/CCMA/NHA NCMA/NRCMA or RMA and BLS are highly valued. Day shifts, 40 hours per week, with travel minimal.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Completion of accredited MA training program or 1+ year MA experience
• 2 years relevant experience in physician practice or healthcare
• Experience using EPIC required
• Ability to obtain various certifications upon hire

Responsibilities

• Room patients for virtual and in-person visits, obtain vitals and screenings
• Answer clinic phones and address in-basket messages
• Obtain prior authorizations and communicate patient needs to providers
• Provide clinical support as needed to care for patients
• Assist with referrals and scheduling as required

About The Unit

HDVCH Behavioral Health is a growing clinic that offers psychiatry, psychology, and therapy services. At our primary location, 35 Michigan St, we provide psychiatric medication management services, psychological testing, and an autism spectrum disorders clinic. Our secondary location, 25 Michigan St, includes psychological testing and therapy services. Because of the nature of our services, we tend to have a high volume of psychiatric and therapy services provided virtually. We currently have 8 psychiatry and APP providers and 18 psychology and psychotherapy providers with additional growth on the horizon. We have two clinical staff and are looking to fill an additional third position. The clinic also has clerical staff to assist with referrals and scheduling calls.

Our clinical staff include both medical assistants (MA) and ambulatory care technicians (ACT). Responsibilities include rooming for virtual and in-person visits, inclusive of obtaining vitals and completion of necessary screenings as applicable, answering clinic phones, addressing in-basket messages, obtaining prior authorizations, communicating with providers regarding patient needs, and provide other clinical support as needed. While we are a behavioral health clinic and our clinical staff may not have as many medical responsibilities as other medical specialties, our patients are often experiencing many complexities and require clinical attentiveness.

Hours of work: generally 7:30 am to 4:30 pm with a possible couple of days earlier start 7 a.m. to 3:30 pm.

Qualifications

• Required High School Diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program that includes hands-on, in-person clinical skills training OR a minimum of one (1) year of experience working specifically in the role of a Medical Assistant, LPN, Paramedic or EMT performing direct patient care and clinical support functions consistent with MA scope of practice. Required
• 2 years of relevant experience Working in a physician practice or healthcare setting Required
• Experience working as a medical assistant Required
• Experience using EPIC Required
• Experience as an EPIC SuperUser Preferred
• CRT-Medical Assistant, Certified (CMA) - AAMA American Association of Medical Assistants Upon Hire required Or
