Job summary

Elliot Health System is seeking a compassionate per diem Medical Assistant to support our Rheumatology team in an outpatient setting. The role involves patient education, administration of biologic and specialty meds, and collaboration with physicians and staff to coordinate care.

The MA positions include MA I and MA II levels with varied education/experience requirements. Expect routine vitals, rooming, specimen collection, and basic point-of-care testing as part of daily responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED required for MA I.
  • Graduate from an accredited MA program or MA training with externship.
  • 1 year of healthcare experience with formal training; or 1 year MA experience.
  • MA II requires at least 3 years’ MA experience; CMA/RMA/CCMA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares visit charts with diagnostic results and reports.
  • Rooms patients for provider visits and documents vitals and concerns.
  • Obtains and documents measurements, vital signs and growth metrics.
  • Performs screenings (depression, asthma) and collects specimens.
  • Administers medications and immunizations per guidelines.
  • Handles medication refills and prior authorizations.
  • Maintains inventory of clinical supplies and samples.

About Us

We are looking for a compassionate and detail-oriented per diem Medical Assistant to join our Rheumatology team, specializing in the care of patients with musculoskeletal and autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and psoriatic arthritis. This outpatient role involves close collaboration with physicians, medical assistants, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality, coordinated care.

Key responsibilities include patient education on chronic disease management and lifestyle modifications, administration and monitoring of biologic and specialty medications, and supporting patients through complex treatment plans. Strong communication skills, clinical judgment, and a commitment to teamwork are essential.

Rheumatology experience is welcome but not required.

Position Summary

Assists providers in the administration of patient care in assigned clinical areas. Assists with patient examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatment, and dressing changes. Performs general administrative duties in accordance with JCAHO, CLIA, NCQA and government standards, as well as company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs visit chart preparation activities based on the daily scheduled appointments including diagnostic test results, emergency/urgent care reports, discharge summaries and consult/PCP reports are located in the medical record and accessible to the provider.
  • Performs rooming activities for provider visits according to the documented rooming criteria including chief complaint, allergies, vital signs, medication list review, tobacco history, LMP, health maintenance overrides and documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Obtains and documents age and/or condition-specific measurements accurately including vital signs, height, weight, head circumference, peak flow, and pulse oximetry.
  • Conducts and documents hearing, vision, respiratory and ECG testing.
  • Performs and documents specific screening based on condition/need including depression and asthma.
  • Obtains, documents and processes specimens using the appropriate collection process and equipment.
  • Performs and documents point of care testing accurately.
  • Performs venipuncture procedures (as needed) and processes specimens as outlined in policies and procedures.
  • Administers medications and immunizations including oral, nasal, injectable, rectal and topical routes as appropriate.
  • Processes medication prescription refills per guidelines using telephonic, electronic or print methods.
  • Handles prior authorization processes for medications and/or procedures and documents appropriately.
  • Manages clinical supplies and medication sample areas to ensure that stock is current, stored appropriately, labeled and par levels maintained.
Education/Experience/Licensure
MA I

Education: HS Diploma or GED required and One of the following:

  • Graduate from an accredited MA Program.
  • Graduate from an MA Training Program with externship.
  • 1 year of relevant healthcare experience with formal training (LNA, EMT, Combat Medic).
  • 1 year prior experience as a Medical Assistant.

Experience: 1 year of relevant healthcare exp. (can include externship), 1 -2 years exp. in a clinical ambulatory care setting preferred.

Certification/Licensure: Must possess BLS authorization upon 90 days of employment and maintain during employment. CMA, RMA or CCMA preferred.

MA II

Education: HS Diploma or GED required and One of the following:

  • Graduate from an accredited MA Program.
  • Graduate from an MA Training Program with externship.
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Experience: 1 year of relevant healthcare exp. (can include externship), 1 -2 years exp. in a clinical ambulatory care setting preferred.

Experience: At least 3 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant.

Certification/Licensure: CMA, RMA or CCMA required. Must possess BLS authorization upon 90 days of employment and maintain during employment.
