Job summary

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA is seeking a Medical Assistant to perform patient care and administrative duties under supervision. The role supports physicians, NPs, PAs, RNs and LPNs, ensuring safe, efficient care within department policies.

A HS Diploma and MA program completion are preferred, with required BLS and a 9-month window for MA certifications. Base pay, incentives, and comprehensive benefits accompany this full-time day shift role in a renowned teaching hospital

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Certification must be obtained within 9 months in one of CCMA/CMA/RMA/EMT programs.

Job description

City/State Norfolk, VA Work Shift First (Days) Overview: Full Time-Day shift The Medical Assistant performs patient care and administrative and clerical related tasks and procedures based on training, education, and competency evaluations, and as delegated by and under the direction/supervision of the Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant (NP/PA), Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The Medical Assistant provides an environment for safety; identifies, addresses, and incorporates principles of safety for the patient, visitors, and employees. Provides patient care tasks and procedures and administrative duties (as appropriate). Demonstrates the ability to objectively assess a specific situation from a number of viewpoints considers an array of alternatives, assists with the development of realistic action plans and evaluates outcomes. Demonstrates the development of the specific skills and knowledge required of medical assistants, effective inter-departmental interactions, and ability to follow department and system policies, procedures, and practices. Productive and efficient in daily operations. Utilizes appropriate resources that are safe, effective, ethical, and fiscally responsible. Education HS Diploma Qualifications: Minimum of one year experience in a healthcare setting preferred. Phlebotomy experience preferred Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred. BLS required within 90 days of hire. Certification must be received within (9) nine months of employment in one of the following certification programs: CCMA- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant or CMA- Certified Medical Assistant or RMA- Registered Medical Assistant or EMT- Emergency Medical Technician Keywords: Medical Assistant, Talroo-Allied Health, RMA, CMA, CCMA, Paramedic, EMT We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full-time employment is $20.31 - $29.92 hourly. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Compensation within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs.
