GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Under the direction of the provider and as a member of the healthcare team, assists in coordinating examination, treatment, and healthcare planning for patients. Supports office functions to enhance patient care and operations. Follows all protocols, policies, procedures, and workflows.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in coordinating patient care under supervision of healthcare provider using a team-based approach.
  • Prepare and room patients, obtain vital signs, document patient info, history, tobacco, and medication screening. Assist with depression screening, annual wellness visits, and update medication and social history in the EHR. Pend/''cue up'' orders for screenings, prescriptions, and refills based on protocols.
  • Perform back-office testing following protocols.
  • Assist providers with examinations and procedures.
  • Serve as a scribe with additional training if applicable.
  • Follow up with patients via preferred method, notify test results under provider guidance.
  • Prepare exam rooms, ensure inventory of supplies, and stock treatment areas.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments per policy and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Perform lab controls and equipment checks as assigned.
  • Administer and document medications accurately.
  • Document in EHR according to standards.
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned, may float between locations.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • High School / GED
  • Completion of Medical Assistant Program OR 1 year of Medical Assistant or direct patient care experience including vital signs. Experience must align with clinical duties (injections, phlebotomy, EKGs).
  • CPR – American Heart Association
  • Act 34, 33, and 73 FBI Fingerprinting and Background Clearances
Certification Requirements:
  • Graduates of medical assistant programs within five years or with one year of recent work experience must complete certification training/testing within 30 days and obtain certification within 120 days.
  • Accepted certifications include NHA, AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA.

Employees not meeting these criteria may have the opportunity to sit for a company proctored exam when qualified.

Preferred:
  • Associate's Degree
