Job summary

Reno Orthopedic Center in downtown Reno is seeking a Pre-Admit Technician (Medical Assistant) to support our pre-admission clinic and help patients have surgery at ROC's surgical center. You will perform preadmission screening, collect vital signs, EKGs, and blood draws while delivering compassionate, patient-first service.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CMA/RMA or ABROE certification (or two years back-office clinical experience) preferred.
• Office Laboratory Assistant certification or ability to obtain within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Perform preadmission screening and testing, including vital signs, EKG, and blood draw.
• Obtain medical clearances from physicians as needed.
• Record medical history in the electronic medical record.
• Provide excellent patient care and communicate with patients and families.
• Assist with pre-surgical assessments and medication reconciliation forms.
• Perform administrative tasks: data entry, filing, and results recording.
• Complete required continuing education and maintain HIPAA compliance.
• Maintain attendance and punctuality to support clinic staffing.

What would you do as a Pre-Admit Technician?

This position focuses its time and effort on the following duties, though others may be required. You can expect to regularly:

• Conduct preadmission screening and testing as needed based on patient's medical history, including obtaining a set of vital signs, performing an EKG, and performing a blood draw to send for testing;
• Obtain Medical Clearances from physician as needed;
• Record patients' medical history and other information in their electronic medical record;
• Provide excellent patient care by communicating effectively with patients and their families regarding any questions or concerns they have;
• Assist with pre-surgical patient assessments, and complete questionnaires and Medication Reconciliation forms as needed;
• Perform administrative tasks including recording results, filing and data entry;
• Complete continuing education as needed to maintain applicable certification;
• Maintain regular attendance and punctuality to minimize impacts to clinic staffing schedules;
• Provide customer service and patient care, maintain confidentiality, and abide by HIPAA requirements.
  

• Certifications/Education
  • High School Diploma/GED;
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) OR Assessment-Based Records in Order Entry (ABROE) certification OR two years of experience in a back-office clinical setting;
  • Office Laboratory Assistant certification (or able to obtain within 90 days of hire);
• Knowledge of
  • HIPAA and OSHA regulations/procedures;
  • Customer service principles and practices.
• Experience
  • Six months of experience performing EKG's and blood draws.
